Is this you?
You are more than just a health care provider – you are a pillar of support for patients facing life-threatening conditions. As a natural problem solver, you can navigate challenging situations with empathy and compassion. You thrive in fast-paced environments, excel at adapting to changing situations, and manage your time effectively.

As a crucial member of an interdisciplinary team, your collaborative abilities shine through when interacting with physicians and allied health professionals. You are known for your exceptional organizational skills, effective planning, and clear communication.

You demonstrate strong critical thinking abilities when assessing complex situations, prioritizing tasks, and finding optimal solutions for your patients. Your commitment to staying updated through research ensures you provide evidence-based care and deliver the best possible outcomes.

About the ICU:
Consisting of 36 beds, our ICU is a level 3 unit that also cares for level 2 patients, serving a diverse patient population including obstetrical, oncology, medicine, and surgical patients. This unit uses a pod-based design to facilitate efficient care delivery and teamwork, alongside advanced technology for patient care and monitoring.

In this role you will:

  • Monitor patients' vital signs, hemodynamics, and respond to emergencies.
  • Assist with bedside procedures, administering medications, managing pain, and caring for patients who are sedated and ventilated.
  • Administer high acuity medications to stabilize acute patients.
  • Interact with physicians, allied health, patients, and families.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Job Requirements:

Mandatory:

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

  • Completion of Level 3 Critical Care Nursing Certificate from an accredited academic institution.
  • 1-2 years of recent Adult Medical/Surgical experience.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate (must complete within 6 months of hire).

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Skilled at multi-tasking with excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Sound knowledge base and demonstrated skill in:
    • Advanced assessment and documentation.
    • Chest tube management.
    • Arrhythmia interpretations.
    • Hemodynamic monitoring.
    • Mechanical ventilation.
    • Dialysis.
    • Set-up and assistance in bedside procedures (e.g., central line insertions, intubations, etc.).
    • Monitoring and transporting critically ill patients for inter-facility transfers.
