Job summary

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) is seeking an ICU Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care to patients, under the Ontario regulatory framework. The role requires current RN registration in Ontario, BCLS, and a Critical Care Certificate, with 2 years of medical-surgical experience preferred.

LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post-acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

The successful incumbent will meet the requirements of the position description for Registered Nurse ICU and act as a team member with specific responsibility for performance of professional nursing care to a patient or group of patients as assigned.

• Currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
• Possess current BCLS
• Possess a Critical Care Certificate from an accredited institution
• Minimum 2 years Medical surgical experience preferred
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills and experience dealing with the general public
• Experience in working as part of an interprofessional team
• Critical thinking
• Follows safe and healthy work practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adherence to health and safety related policies and procedures

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to prioritize workload and effectively respond to many simultaneous and competing demands from patients, families, staff, physicians, and other programs and departments
• Intense visual concentration required for processing practitioners’ orders, carrying out medication administration routines and interpreting electronic physiological monitoring equipment
• Physical ability to lift, pull, push, carry, reach, and physically support patients with assistance, as required
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time with repetitive bending
• Adheres to safe and healthy workplace practices and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards, and adheres to health and safety related policies and procedures
• Understanding of compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Infection Prevention and Control practices

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
