Job summary

William Osler Health System in Brampton is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the General Medicine Unit. The role focuses on delivering patient-centered care within an inter-professional team, ensuring safety and quality in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Requirements include current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and BCLS certification. Prior acute medicine and geriatric experience are preferred, with knowledge of COPD and related therapies.

Qualifications

  • Experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years in acute medicine.
  • Experience working with geriatric patients within the last two years preferred.
  • Knowledge of COPD, inhaler and nebulizer therapy.
  • Experience in care of patient with TPN, NG tubes, chest tubes, tracheostomy, wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection and isolation within the last two years preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care in the General Medicine Unit.
  • Adhere to nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver care with a focus on safety, infection control, and patient education.
  • Collaborate with an inter-professional team to coordinate care.
  • Respond to emergencies and support discharge planning and community follow-up.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients in the General Medicine Unit. As part of the inter‑professiona‑l health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Accountabilities:

  • Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
  • Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
  • Professional, patient‑centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well‑being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
  • Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
  • Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures
  • Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
  • Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community
  • Working under constant change and new testing
  • Functioning as a change agent by thinking reflectively, questioning assumptions, assessing alternatives, and supporting change
  • Demonstrating an awareness of organizational and unit needs by participating in the establishment of priorities, the management of resources, and in modifying the environment to meet changing needs
Qualifications

  • Experience working with geriatric patients within the last two yearspreferred

Core competencies:

  • Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession
  • BCLS required
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict‑resolution and decision‑making skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter‑professiona‑l
