The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in its Forensic Secure Unit A (FSUA). As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing. As well, you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, and with the CAMH Practice Model of Care. You will be expected to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care for forensic inpatients under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). You will liaise with other services in the Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; participate in clinical supervision; participate in the Unit risk management program; provide educational support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program and facilitate groups. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations; perform assessments including physical and mental status assessments; monitor patients’ responses to pharmaceutical and other care interventions; documentation and ongoing communication with the other team members. You will also possess the skills to participate in the preparation of ORB reports and ongoing communication and collaboration with other team members. You will have sound knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention, recovery-oriented approaches, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, trauma-informed care, culturally competent care, severe and persistent mental illness, and concurrent disorders. You will have sound knowledge of clinical and risk management services to adults under the jurisdiction of the ORB. You will develop, implement and monitor risk management plans and ensure compliance with the ORB disposition. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate inter-professional client centered care plans. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves 12-hour shift rotation, evening and weekend work. This position is located at Queen Street Site.
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Forensic Nursing course and knowledge of risk assessment techniques would be an asset. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enabling you to develop the Nurse- Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the prevention and management of disturbed behaviour. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
This part-time, permanent position is a0.30commitment, which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
