Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an RNFA in Fort McMurray to provide advanced perioperative nursing care across preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases. Step into a dynamic and specialized role where your expertise impacts surgical outcomes and patient experiences. As a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), you will provide advanced perioperative nursing care. This role requires the successful candidate to perform both RNFA and perioperative nursing duties, including circulating and other operating room assignments as required. Working closely with surgeons and the interdisciplinary team, you will support patients throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of care.Responsibilities are performed in accordance with Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) standards and organizational policies. Using advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and surgical techniques, you will contribute to patient safety, surgical efficiency, and positive outcomes. This role emphasizes evidence-based practice, quality improvement, patient advocacy, continuity of care, and clinical leadership in a fast-paced environment. Strong critical thinking, adaptability, sound clinical judgment and strong communication skills are essential. Alberta Health Services also provides a Fort McMurray Allowance of up to $12,480 annually.Professional Development Opportunity: Candidates who are not RNFA-certified are encouraged to apply if they hold a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, have at least five years of current operating room experience, including intraoperative experience, and meet National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA) admission requirements. Eligible candidates may receive employer-supported RNFA certification through a NIFA partnership program. Successful completion is a condition of employment. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Candidates must possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, completion of an accredited RNFA program, and a minimum of five (5) years of perioperative nursing experience. Candidates must also demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship abilities; excellent communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills within a highly complex interdisciplinary environment; and proficiency in critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Candidates applying for the Professional Development Opportunity must meet the required qualifications listed above and the RNFA Program admission requirements set by the National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA). Participation in the Program will require a Return for Service Agreement. The program is full-time and approximately 6 months in duration; timelines may vary based on service delivery, location, Canadian Nursing Association examination schedules and individual learner progression. Preferred Qualifications:

CNA Certification in Perioperative Nursing. Active CNA membership. Active AAN membership. Perioperative Certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution. Previous RNFA experience in a variety of surgical specialties. ACLS Certification. PALS Certification. Completion of RN prescribing modules. Membership with one of the following Professional Associations: ORNAC, RNFANC or AORN.
