Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Edmonton Zone, Sturgeon Community Hospital, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for Labour & Delivery. You will deliver evidence-based obstetrical care across antepartum, labour and postpartum stages, collaborating with physicians, midwives and neonatal teams to support safe births.

Required competencies include obstetrical nursing experience, CRNA registration, BCLS-HCP, and capacity to manage emergencies with a patient- and family-centered approach.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum six (6) months of obstetrical nursing experience within the last two (2) years. Completion of advanced obstetrical education (e.g., Maternal Newborn Nursing Orientation) and current Newborn Resuscitation, Fetal Health Surveillance and CPR certifications. Completion of Labour & Delivery Epic Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and successful completion of a medication examination prior to interview. Demonstrated ability to rapidly assess changing clinical situations, prioritize care, make sound clinical decisions and respond effectively to obstetrical emergencies. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining respectful, professional relationships with patients, families and colleagues. Strong communication and conflict-management skills required. Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and electronic clinical and communication systems. Ability to meet the physical demands of prolonged standing and walking, frequent patient handling and transfers, assisting with deliveries and post-epidural ambulation, and moving equipment and linen. Active N95 mask fitting. Ability to safely handle loads of 0-20 lbs constantly, 21-50 lbs frequently and 51-100 lbs occasionally, and push or pull heavy equipment or loads exceeding 180-250 lbs when required during patient care and emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Nursing/Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred; however, equivalent skills, knowledge and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with recent obstetrical nursing experience in a tertiary care facility, particularly experience within a high-acuity Obstetrics Department. Demonstrated experience caring for patients with complex obstetrical needs and emergent clinical situations is considered an asset.
