Job summary

Unity Health Toronto is seeking a Family Birthing Centre Registered Nurse to work in labour, delivery and postpartum units. You will advocate for wellness, deliver safe nursing care, and collaborate with the interprofessional team to support patient transitions and care planning.

The role requires obstetric and neonatal competencies, with ongoing learning supported. You will contribute to discharge planning, patient education and evidence-based practice in a dynamic maternity environment.

Qualifications

• ,Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current BLS certificate.
• Recent Intrapartum and Postpartum experience.
• Experience with level 1 and level 2 maternity patients (LDRP) model preferred.
• Obstetrics/Perinatal Certificate within 3 years of hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Certificate within 6 months of hire.
• Breastfeeding Certificate within 6 months of hire.
• Fetal Health Surveillance Course within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to speak a second language is an asset.

Job description

The Family Birthing Centre RN works in both labour and delivery and postpartum units. The RN works within a changing environment and in interprofessional teams to advocates for and promotes wellness while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and ethical nursing care. The RN shares his/her knowledge and expertise with others and contributes to the advancement of nursing practice excellence. The RN continually enhances his/her practice and competencies through ongoing learning, education, experience and reflective practice. The successful candidate will be expected to work in both Labour and postpartum and will possess or be expected to attain the skills and competency to function proficiently in both clinical areas.

Responsibilities

• Being accountable for one's decisions and professional practice;

Patient Care

• Acquires information to assess patient care and learning needs
• Develops a plan of care and integrates nursing activities with other inter-professional activities

• Organizes nursing care and assigns or changes nursing care activities where appropriate
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and adjusts the plan as needed
• Anticipates, recognizes and addresses rapidly changing situations
• Provides health education to patients and their families using effective teaching strategies
• Documents observations, assessments and care provision
• Contributes to discharge and transition planning

• Serves as the primary resource for organizing and coordinating patient care activities

Qualifications Include

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
