Job summary

Humber River Health in Toronto is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join the Mother and Baby Unit on a part-time basis. The role involves postpartum care, patient safety, health teaching, and collaboration with an inter-professional team. Shifts rotate across days/evenings/nights and weekends, with an hourly rate of $38.893–$39.458.

Requires 2 years postpartum experience, BCLS, and perinatal credentials. Accommodation and inclusive workplace values are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized Registered Practical Nursing two year diploma program.
• Current RPN registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Recent postpartum experience in Canadian hospital (min 2 years) within last five years.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificate or enrollment before probationary date.
• Completion of RNANO breastfeeding e-learning course or completion within 3 months of hire.
• Obstetrics Nursing certificate is an asset.
• Perinatal Bereavement knowledge and PAIL Network workshop.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
• Adherence to hospital code of conduct.
• Competence in skills (IM injections, newborn blood collection, blood transfusion, med administration, etc.).
• Basic computer skills; Meditech experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Excellent attendance record; equity, diversity, and inclusion awareness is an asset.

Right now we’re looking for a Registered Practical Nurse to work in our Mother and Baby Unit.

Employment Status: Part-Time

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Mother and Baby Unit and Obstetrical Clinics

Hourly Rate: $38.893 - $39.458

Union Group: NOWU

Hours of work: Rotating shifts, 12 hours, days/evenings/nights/weekends

Location: Humber River Health – Wilson Site

Position Responsibilities

• Registered Practical Nursing duties as outlined by the College of Ontario Nurses.
• Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
• Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being
• Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment.
• Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
• Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community.
  

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized Registered Practical Nursing two year diploma program.
• Current RPN registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Recent experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years postpartum experience in Canadian hospital required
• Current BCLS certification required
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certificate or proof of enrollment before probationary date of hired required
• Completion of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario breastfeeding e-learning course required or completion within 3 months of hire
• Obstetrics Nursing certificate is an asset
• Perinatal Bereavement knowledge and PAIL Network workshop
• Excellent organizational skills with an ability to set priorities.
• Demonstrate adherence to the hospital’s code of conduct.
• Demonstrate competency in a variety of skills including (but not limited to), intramuscular injections, Newborn blood collection , Blood Transfusion, Medication Administration, etc.
• Basic computer skills and Meditech experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Proven attendance record. Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
