About
Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individual patient care according to unit policies and procedures, including the PCU level patient. Provides supervision of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit. When assuming the charge role, delegates and supervises unit activities. May be required to work on other nursing units according to staff and patient distribution. Performs other duties as assigned to maintain high service levels.

Responsibilities

  1. Assesses the patients' physical and psychosocial condition throughout care.
  2. Develops, communicates, and documents a care plan involving the patient, family, and healthcare team.
  3. Implements and coordinates the care plan collaboratively.
  4. Evaluates the plan's effectiveness, patient responses, and discharge readiness; revises as needed and makes referrals.
  5. Plans and provides patient and family education based on assessed learning needs; documents outcomes.
  6. Functions as a preceptor to new staff.
  7. Acts as a charge nurse.
  8. Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff.
  9. Meets performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff development.
  10. Performs other duties to ensure departmental operations.
  11. Unit-specific: Demonstrates lung assessment skills and instructs patients in breathing exercises.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic health records and internet research for patient care.

Experience: N/A

Licensure: Valid Connecticut RN license

Skills: BLS certification required; ACLS within 6 months.
