Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, Pre-Assessment/Day Surgery, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, patient-focused nursing care to patients and families. In collaboration with the family and other team members, the registered nurse is responsible for the ongoing assessment and monitoring of the patient’s health status, identification of patient/family needs, development of plans to meet those needs, direct patient care, and evaluation of care. The registered nurse also participates in ongoing professional development and hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives. The nurse is expected to work in all areas, including Local & Adult Day Surgery.

The registered nurse applies current theory and research in care delivery, aligned with the hospital's vision and values, and complies with Occupational Health and Safety standards to promote a safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Current 2 years of acute nursing experience – required
• Care of the patient receiving conscious sedation and cardiac monitoring - preferred
• Recent experience (within the last two years) of Adult Day Surgery/Day Procedures, preferred
• Responsible for opening and closing the department regularly
• Willing to participate in process improvement
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high patient volume area
• Good health and fitness level appropriate for the position
• Ability to communicate in French – asset

Education/Training Experience

• Current Certificate of Registration through the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current Basic Rescuer (C) certification recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
• EKG Interpretation Certificate or successful completion of arrhythmia Interpretation and Intervention exams
