Position Summary
Located at the heart of downtown Toronto, The Krembil Brain Institute at Toronto Western Hospital is home to one of the world’s largest neurosurgical program consisting of world leading spinal, neurosurgical teams and the most comprehensive multidisciplinary teams working hand-in-hand to prevent and confront problems of the brain and spine. As part of the Krembil Brain Institute, the spinal unit is a University Health Network Centre of Excellence. The University Health Network (UHN) is looking for highly motivated professionals to fill the key role of a Registered Nurse in our Spine/Neurosurgery Department. We hire and train newly graduated nurses.
Our 28-bed unit is a specialized spine unit within the Krembil Brain Institute (KBI) and one of a few in the country. Our patients range from those having neurosurgical spine, orthopedic spine and procedures to those experiencing emergent infectious, oncological, and traumatic processes with potentially devastating consequences. We also care for patients with other neurological/neurosurgical indications. Common diagnoses we encounter include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spinal cord injuries, spinal tumors and abscesses, neurological disorders, and chronic pain disorders.
As a member multi-disciplinary Team, the REGISTERED NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.
