Alberta Health Services is seeking a Registered Nurse for the 5W Combined Medicine/Surgery unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. You will provide nursing care with focus on patient safety, using evidence-based processes and family-centered communication, within a supportive multi-disciplinary team.
You will lead in delivering holistic care, participate in health promotion, and uphold AHS values. Provisional permits are paid at the RN rate with progression upon full licensure.
5W is a combined medicine/orthopedic surgical unit. We are recruiting a Registered Nurse who will work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality, patient/family centered care to a variety of patients with complex and diverse care needs. The RN will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teaching, counseling, and advocating on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, and the provision of safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
A minimum of 2 years recent (within the last 3 years) adult acute medical and/or surgical nursing experience is required. A strong understanding of COACT principles. Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Strong clinical and assessment skills necessary (Patient assessment, IV certified, CVC/PICC certified, Foley insertion, and Glucometer certified, etc.). Must have excellent interpersonal communication, effective time management, and organizational skills required to work with the multidisciplinary team. Must be able to work in a fast-paced department that is variable, unpredictable, and has competing priorities. Strong conflict resolution skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all members of the healthcare team and with patients and family members. Ability to lift and turn patients safely using appropriate techniques and equipment (IYM).
Previous acute medicine, surgical or emergency nursing experience.
A satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search is required prior to your first day of work. Additionally, all employees have an ongoing duty to disclose any charges or convictions that may occur during their employment with AHS.
