Position Information

Where there are no successful applicants, nurses that meet the experience requirement may apply and be eligible for a coronary critical care training program lasting up to 12 weeks.

Rotation/Shifts

Days and nights, including weekends, 12 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Completion of Coronary Care Courses;
  • Minimum of one (1) year medical surgical nursing experience; and
  • Minimum of one (1) year cardiology nursing experience;
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the nursing process as it relates to the general medicine/surgery patient and the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the care of the cardiac patient,and ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess the patient's learning needs and ability to plan appropriate teaching;
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate as an active member of the health care team;
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health discipline;
  • Identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities;
  • Demonstrates an understanding and a willingness to participate in self-evaluation;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the application and relevance of the Quality Assurance Program and participates in unit activities;
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of the Nursing Utilization Collection system and willingness to participate on an ongoing basis;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).


Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Nursing;
  • Successful completion of a critical care program or consolidation in critical care;
  • Recent courses in coronary care, critical care; UoHI Cardiac Nursing Series;
  • Experience reading and interpreting 12 lead ECG's;
  • Member RNAO;
  • Member CCCN.
