Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking a Registered Nurse for a temporary full-time 8-month role in Labour and Delivery/OBS Float Pool located at Oshawa (primary) and Ajax-Pickering. Wage schedule ranges from $41.150 to $58.980 per hour.

Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses and Perinatal training are required, with NRP within 3 months and BCLS current. Prior acute care and cross-training to Post-Partum are valued.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Completion of a Perinatal Course or in process (within two years).
  • NRP within 3 months of hire.
  • Current BCLS certification required.
  • Experience in acute care setting or recent consolidation in L&D/ Postpartum/ NICU.
  • Experience in scrub and circulating role for Caesarean births preferred.
  • Commitment to Reflective Practice Standards and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and demonstrate leadership within the team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To use nursing process in providing patient care. To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records. Cross-training to Post-Partum required. Successful applicants will be required to work in the Labour and Delivery units at LHO, LHAP and LHPP.



  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);

  • Completion of a Perinatal Course or in process of completing (within two years of hire date) NOTE: an experienced perinatal nurse with two years of fulltime experience can challenge this course by writing the Canadian Nurses Association Perinatal Certification exam;

  • Current BCLS required;

  • NRP (within 3 months of hire) required;

  • previous experience in an acute care setting (Pediatrics, Labour and Delivery, NICU, Medicine, Critical Care, Surgery, Emergency or Operating Room) required; or recent (within 1 year) consolidation experience in Labour and Delivery, Postpartum, or Neonatal ICU required;

  • Experience in the scrub and circulating role for Caesarean births or enrolled in a Perioperative nursing course preferred;

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;

  • Demonstrated effective organizational, problem-solving and teaching skills;

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Sound judgement, good observation and patient assessment skills, tact and empathy;

  • Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership/supervisory role;

  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;

  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area.
