Job Summary

The Specialty Pharma Nurse - Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Specialty Pharma Supervisor and/or Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager, delivers and monitors specialized infusion, injectable, or oral pharmacological treatments in the home and/or clinic setting. The infusion nurse is responsible for monitoring the patient for infusion-related reactions (intervening as required), accurately documenting the procedure, and submitting reports in a timely manner. The Specialty Pharma Nurse - Registered Nurse is expected to maintain effective communication with the Specialty Nursing Supervisor and/or Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. Specialized pharmacological training will be provided.

Specialty Pharma Nursing involves one-on-one patient care, aiming to ensure continuity of care with the same nurse for each infusion.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop and review individualized nursing care plans for each patient.
  • Conduct patient health assessments and medication teaching.
  • Obtain IV access through peripheral or central lines (PICC, IVAD, etc.).
  • Prepare and administer specialized intravenous or injectable pharmacological treatments.
  • Provide patient care utilizing observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling, health teaching, and reporting adverse events.
  • Perform routine nursing duties per company policies, provincial standards, and medical directives.
  • Maintain role-specific training, observe and document patient conditions, and report adverse events according to pharmacovigilance requirements.
  • Complete other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program with a BSc in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
  • Current registration and good standing with the provincial nursing regulatory body.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS certification required for clinic roles.
  • Chemotherapy – Biotherapy course is an asset.
Experience
  • Experience in acute care or administering specialty pharmaceuticals.
  • Home care experience is an asset.
  • Critical care, infusion clinic, or oncology experience preferred.
  • Exceptional peripheral IV skills; experience with central lines (IVAD, PICC) is an asset.
Other Skills And Abilities
  • Exceptional patient assessment skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage relationships with excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and interpret technical instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license.
