Covenant Health’s Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton is hiring a Registered Nurse for Unit 42 - General Surgery. This temporary part-time role is 0.42 FTE and involves days, evenings, and weekends on a busy acute surgical unit serving 3000 Albertans per year.

The RN must be graduates of an RN program with active CRNA registration, BLS Level C, and surgical/acute care experience. Competitive hourly pay between $44.56 and $60.98, with a start date in December 2026.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.
• Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
• If not practiced in last five years, complete CRNA Medication Administration Certificate and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Responsibilities

• Participate in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, and administering medications.
• Monitor and document treatment progress and patient response.
• Coordinate and liaise with multidisciplinary team; educate patient/family and assist with discharge planning.
• Act as charge nurse when required and provide advocacy for patients.

Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year surgical or acute care nursing experience and/or a successful completion of surgical preceptorship within the last year is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Inpatient surgical experience within the last 2 years would be an asset.
