Job summary

The Covenant Health Grey Nuns Community Hospital – Operating Room in Edmonton is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for scrub and circulating roles in a busy perioperative team. You will contribute to patient care planning, implementation, and education within General Surgery, Gynecology, Vascular, Plastics, ENT, and Orthopedics.

As a member of the UNA collective agreement, you will work in a supportive environment with flexible shifts (days/evenings/weekends/on call) and a 0.68 FTE.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Registered Nurse program; active CRNA registration required.
• BLS Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
• If not practiced in last 5 years, complete CRNA Medication Administration and NextGenU Health Assessment Certifications.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, the RN contributes to the assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care in the surgical setting. Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications

Must have OR experience/training. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written. Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Excellent assessment and organizational skills. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting and Microsoft Outlook. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and have the physical ability to push, pull, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time (more than 30 minutes). Committed to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices. Ability to work in a fast paced, highly stressful environment. Ability to participate as an effective member of and lead the interprofessional team. Exercises good judgment in decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years operating room experience an asset. Priority will be given to RN with a perioperative course.
