The Registered Dietitian serves as the representative in client care nutritional activities. The Dietitian will provide direct nutritional assessment and counseling to both in-patients and out-patients and assume responsibility for dietary program development and consultation, reassessing priorities quarterly to meet evolving needs of mental health clients. The Dietitian participates as a member of the inter-professional team to develop and implement programs such as cooking groups, staff workshops, and initiatives to prevent chronic diseases and obesity among clients.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Completion of recognized internship program
- Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Membership in Dietitians of Canada (preferred)
- Minimum one year experience as a clinical dietitian in a mental health or chronic care setting (preferred)
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition care and education for individuals and groups
- Screen clients' nutritional status and develop appropriate care plans and interventions
- Assess laboratory values and other medical data related to nutritional status
- Monitor clients' nutritional status
- Counsel clients and/or families or caregivers on nutritional requirements
- Provide guidance and consult with other healthcare professionals
- Develop and deliver educational programs for hospital staff as needed
