Job summary

RBC Wealth Management in Vaughan, Ontario is seeking an experienced Investment Counsellor to lead and guide portfolio management activities across the region. You will work with Managing Directors, Investment Counsellors and Associate Portfolio Managers to ensure adherence to governance standards and deliver exceptional client experiences.

The role involves client discovery, policy statements, asset allocation, risk monitoring and reporting, with emphasis on HNW expectations and audit-oriented

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Business and/or Economics.
  • Minimum 10 years investment industry experience.
  • Ability to clearly communicate compliance and portfolio management issues.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory environment and governance.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess business risks and exercise sound judgment.
  • Some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively participate in regional/national projects to continuously improve portfolio management
  • Prepare pre-approval review of all Investment Policy Statements
  • Act as a key resource regarding complex files – with an excellent understanding of portfolio theory, the tax and regulatory environment and related wealth management considerations
  • Manage client investment portfolios, including client discovery, suitability, asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk alerts and performance
  • Understand High Net Worth (HNW) client expectations
  • Maintain mandatory governance reporting; be audit-oriented
  • Facilitate quick identification and mitigation of business risks.
  • Identify unique/individual training needs and deliver training programs

What is the opportunity?

As a strategic member of a national senior management team, you will providing specialized support and operational guidance within a reputable and growing high performance investment counselling firm. Performing within the RBC Phillips Hager & North Investment Counsel division, you will be working with your region’s accomplished Investment Counsellors and their support teams to confirm they adhere to the highest standards of portfolio management governance, thus ensuring they and the firm deliver an exceptional client experience.

Job Description

You will be working closely with Managing Directors, Investment Counsellors and Associate Portfolio Managers to provide leadership and guidance for activities and processes related to managing client investment portfolios, including client discovery, Investment Policy Statements, suitability, asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk alerts, performance attribution and reporting.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  • University Degree (preferable in Business and/or Economics)
  • Minimum 10-years investment industry experience
  • Outgoing personality and ability to confidently communicate compliance and portfolio management issues, build trust and credibility
  • In-depth understanding of the regulatory environment/corporate governance
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand business risks, exhibit sound judgment and decision-making
  • Some travel required
Nice-to-have
  • Fluent in Mandarin/Cantonese/French
  • Experience with Canadian Wealth Management (CWM) operating systems would be an asset
  • CFA Charter holder; CIM
