Job summary

Government of Nunavut is seeking a Regional Emergency Measures Officer in Iqaluit to guide emergency management activities across Nunavut. You will develop standards, respond to emergencies, and coordinate culturally relevant preparedness education.

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Preparedness, the REMO will engage with GN, municipalities, and partners, participate in ICS, and help organize training, school presentations, and public events as needed.

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Preparedness, the Regional Emergency Measurers Officer (REMO) is responsible for providing guidance and support to inform emergency management activities taking place across Nunavut. The role is also responsible for developing and communicating emergency management standards and procedures to stakeholders that have statutory responsibilities under the Emergency Measures Act (EMA) and responding to emergencies as needed. This position will allow Nunavut Emergency Management (NEM) to provide culturally relevant preparedness education, based on accepted best practice, as opposed to conventional messaging streaming from the predominantly national programs. The incumbent will assist in reviewing and developing various training courses for the emergency measures program, and organizing and participating in school presentations, trade shows, career fairs and other public functions. The REMO replies to inquiries from the public, GN, municipalities, federal/provincial/territorial (FPT) partners and stakeholders on the Personal Preparedness Program and related initiatives and will be part of the Incident Command System (ICS) and based on the level of certification maybe called upon to act in one of the various command positions.
