Job summary

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is seeking a Regional Director, Acute Care Services to provide strategic and operational leadership across WRHA acute care settings. You will report to the VP, Acute Care Services and drive high-quality, patient-centered care while coordinating with continuum services.

The role emphasizes improving patient flow, capacity planning, and integration with community and long-term care.

Qualifications

• Progressive leadership experience in healthcare, preferably within acute care settings.
• Strong understanding of health system integration and quality improvement.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships across interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Support the Vice President, Acute Care Services in advancing the strategic direction and operational priorities of the acute care portfolio.
• Provide leadership and oversight for assigned acute care programs and services, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient care.
• Translate strategic priorities into actionable operational plans at site and program levels.
• Monitor and evaluate program performance using data and KPIs; identify opportunities for improvement.
• Lead and support quality improvement, patient safety, and accreditation initiatives across acute care services.
• Promote evidence-informed practice, standardization, and innovation to improve outcomes.
• Collaborate with site leadership and clinical teams to improve patient flow and access to acute care.
• Support capacity planning and surge management to respond to fluctuations in patient volumes.
• Collaborate with medical leadership to align operational and clinical priorities.
• Ensure effective workforce planning, including recruitment, retention, succession planning, and staff engagement within the portfolio.
• Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and patient- and family-centered care.
• Strengthen integration across the health system with Community Health Services and other WRHA portfolios.
• Represent the Acute Care portfolio on internal committees, regional initiatives, and external partnerships as required.
• Lead change management initiatives and support teams through transformation and system redesign.
• Provide mentorship and leadership development to managers and emerging leaders within the portfolio.
