Job summary

Calgary Stampede is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to join the Park and Facility Services Team. The role covers the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration and HVAC equipment for events and year‑round operations.

The ideal candidate is a certified Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic or an active apprentice in good standing, with strong customer service and knowledge of MS Office; knowledge of JCI Metasys BMS is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Must be a certified Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic or an apprentice in good standing.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and time management.
  • Experience with MS Office; familiarity with building management systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Calgary Stampede policies and procedures.
  • Repair and troubleshoot refrigeration, HVAC equipment; perform safety inspections.
  • Maintain equipment database and schedule run times for events.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and uphold high safety standards.

Position Summary

The Refrigeration Mechanic is a member of the Park and Facility Services Team, responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the air conditioning, refrigeration, and all HVAC equipment for the Calgary Stampede.

This position involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment, adhering to accepted refrigeration handling practices and completing preventative maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhere to Calgary Stampede policies and procedures.
  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform daily government required safety inspections.
  • Adhere to accepted refrigerant handling practices.
  • Maintain and update the equipment database.
  • Schedule equipment run times for events.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Upgrade training, as required.
  • Must complete daily DWO’s and FLHA’s in a timely manner.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic, a team player and should have the ability to multitask, as well as the following:

  • Must be a certified Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic or a motivated apprentice in good standing.
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and time management skills.
  • General knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and database applications.
  • Experience or familiarity with JCI Metasys Building Management Systems (BMS) is considered an asset; training will be provided.
  • Must possess a class 5 driver’s license.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Adequate visual acuity, color vision and sense of smell are required.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional lifting to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Pushing, pulling, crouching, bending, kneeling and reaching frequently.
  • Daily stair climbing.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gas, odors, animal dander, bedding waste and variability of seasonal climate.
  • Occasionally work at heights, ladder, scissor lift or manlift.
