Job summary

SARCAN Recycling is seeking a part-time Recycling Technician in Buffalo Narrows to greet customers, manage deposits, and prepare containers for transport. The role involves sorting, loading, cleaning, and operating a POS system when required, with a focus on accuracy and safety.

Ideal candidates will have basic literacy and numeracy, plus dependable teamwork and strong communication skills to support a busy, inclusive work environment with community impact.

Qualifications

• Basic reading, writing and numeracy skills are required.
• Basic computer skills; email use required.
• Ability to focus on own work including counting and recording containers.
• Ability to follow instructions and ensure tasks are completed in sequence.
• Ability to communicate with customers in a courteous, professional manner.
• Dependability and teamwork.
• Criminal record check is required.

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers and answering inquiries about materials, deposits, and sizes.
• Counting containers and recording orders for deposit refunds.
• Preparing containers for transport, including sorting, crushing and loading onto trailers.
• General cleaning and upkeep of the depot building and yard.
• Performing physical work, repetitive tasks, and standing for long periods.
• Operating point-of-sale system if needed.
• Becoming the biggest recycling expert among family and friends.

To be successful as a Recycling Technician at SARCAN, you will need:
