Job summary

SARCAN Recycling in Wynyard is seeking a Recycling Technician on a casual basis. You will greet customers, answer questions about accepted materials, and assist with container deposits and counts.

You will count containers, prepare for transport, sort and crush as needed, and keep the depot building and yard clean. This role requires basic reading and computer skills, and a dependable team player who can work standing for long periods.

Qualifications

• Basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills are required.
• Basic computer skills; use of email is required.
• Ability to focus on own work, including counting and recording containers.
• Ability to follow instructions and ensure tasks are completed in sequence.
• Ability to communicate with customers in a courteous, professional manner.
• Be dependable and a team‑player.
• Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers and fielding general inquiries about accepted materials, deposit amounts, and container sizes.
• Counting containers and recording orders for deposit refund.
• Preparing containers for transport, including sorting, crushing, and loading product onto trailers.
• Performing general cleaning and upkeep of the depot building and yard.
• Performing physical work, repetitive tasks, and standing for long periods.
• Operating point‑of‑sale system, if needed.
