A leading company in recycling management is seeking a Recycling Operations Facility Manager II in Campbell River. The role involves overseeing operational effectiveness, ensuring health and safety compliance, as well as managing the production and maintenance teams. Ideal candidates will have 5-10 years of relevant experience and a strong background in operations leadership.
The Recycling Operations Facility Manager II (ROFMII) reports directly to the Recycling Operations District Manager (RODM), Recycling Operations General Manager (ROGM), or the Recycling Operations Regional General Manager (RORGM). The primary focus is on supporting mechanisms that streamline and coordinate operational effectiveness and efficiency of the assigned operations. Key areas include health & safety, environmental compliance, quality control, inventory accuracy, inter-yard transportation coordination, meeting facility volume quotas through communication with the Commercial Group, and continuous improvement of facilities, administration, and management of production and maintenance employees.
This position operates within flexible parameters with the primary goal of achieving excellence in all facets of facility and operations management. Providing high-quality products safely, effectively, and efficiently reduces accidents and errors while increasing profits.
Essential Functions
Supports overall H&S issues by working closely with the Regional Safety Engineer(s).
Oversees operations and maintenance across departments.
Monitors equipment needs and availability.
Communicates with Commercial and Transportation Departments to meet material purchase quotas.
Operates within established budgets and recommends capital expenditures based on equipment, environmental, and operational needs.
Monitors staffing levels, performance, and compliance with HR policies and union contracts.
Performs other projects as assigned.
Internal Control Responsibilities
Supports internal control processes, including understanding, communication, compliance, and suggesting policy improvements. Ensures ownership and completion of internal controls within scope, including reports by direct reports.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises Recycling Operations Facility FE / NF Supervisors and union / non-union hourly staff.
Job Conditions
Workload varies cyclically with potential for significant time pressures, reactive tasks, and extra hours including weekends and holidays. Exposure to active industrial yards and inclement weather is possible. Travel and offsite meetings are required.
Physical Activities Required
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, walk and move around in industrial environments, and perform computer work. Must communicate professionally via phone, email, and in person.
Qualifications
Minimum 5-10 years in steel scrap yard operations, familiarity with physical operations and personnel. College degree preferred; project management experience is a plus. Valid driver’s license required. Skills include operations knowledge, leadership, analytical thinking, organization, communication, mathematical skills, and computer competency.
