Job summary

AgeCare is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop and run meaningful recreation and leisure activities for residents in our long-term care home in Ajax, Ontario. You will support wellbeing, community, lifelong learning, and fun while adapting programs to individual abilities.

You will collaborate with care teams, families and volunteers to create engaging spaces and document resident progress, contributing to person-centered plans and quality improvement processes.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
• Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field.
• Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program with the intent to complete within three years of being hired.
• OR a health care related degree with demonstrated skills in providing recreation and leisure services in a health care setting including planning, assessment, documentation, and therapeutic programming.
• Salary Range: $23.67 - $25.34 per hour
• Canadian work experience is not required.

The Recreation Worker facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.

• Assists in development, planning and implementing daily recreation and leisure activities, both in the home and in the community, using a collection of holistic resident information and choices, and in a manner that reflects AgeCare's philosophy and approach to resident programming.

• Develops and maintains good communications with residents and their families, friends, as well as volunteers, community groups and agencies.

What You Will Need:

• Graduate of a post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other related field from a community college or university.
• Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field with the intent to successfully complete the program within three years of being hired.
• OR
• A post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health care related field and demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health care setting including:
  • Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning,
  • Assessment, care planning and other related documentation,
  • Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches,
  • Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices and implementation of these in a long‑term care or health care setting,
  • And supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.

Salary Range: $23.67 - $25.34 per hour

Salary placement based on qualifications and experience.
