Job summary

Qualifications

The Recreation Therapist is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As a Recreation Therapist, your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  1. Providing and assessing for recreation therapy activities including outings in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and resident plan of care and within the scope of practice.
  2. Developing and sustaining a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed needs based on individual strengths, needs, and interests of residents to establish importance and direction of therapeutic recreation intervention.
  3. Ensuring that thorough evaluation of assessments, intervention plans, program development, and program delivery is consistently being completed to ensure the efficacy of recreation services.
  4. Guiding recreation therapy assistants ensuring proper documentation is completed MDS/RAI, Activity Pro.
  5. Observing facilitation of activities, engaging in reflective practice to ensure appropriate and thorough programming is taking place.
  6. Maintaining accurate and complete records of care delivered, documentation, program development, and program delivery.
  7. Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

  1. University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies, and/or a degree in Health Sciences with a post-graduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, from a recognized university or equivalent education and experience.
  2. Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO). Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  3. Member in good standing with BC Therapeutic Recreation Association. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.
  4. Be a registered Recreation Therapist (R/TRO) or in process of registration with TRO. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  5. Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with seniors.
  6. Qualifications must meet definition under MDS-RAI guidelines.
  7. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  8. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.

A class 4 BC drivers License is required.
