Job summary

AgeCare in Alberta is seeking a Recreation Therapist to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident recreation therapy. The role focuses on using recreation and leisure to improve function and overall well-being for residents with illness or disabling conditions.

You will identify individual goals, communicate treatment plans to the Interdisciplinary Team, residents and families, and supervise Therapy Aides in group and individual activities. Flexibility and empathetic care are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy from a Canadian accredited school.
  • Eligible for registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association.
  • Experience in health care; gerontology experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to prepare assessments and MDS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with residents, families and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates residents in regards to recreation therapy.
  • Identifies goals and treatment plans and communicates them to the Interdisciplinary Team, residents and family.
  • Directs and assists Recreation Therapy Aides with individual/group resident leisure pursuits.
  • Utilizes documentation methods including charting and assessments.
  • Communicates information within the Recreation Therapy Department and Interdisciplinary Team Conferences.
