We currently have an opportunity for a Full-Time Recreation Therapist
Location: WRHN @ Chicopee
Hours: 8 HR Shifts, Days- This position currently supports TCU at Chicopee and has pre-scheduled shifts
Position Summary
As a member of a multi-disciplinary Collaborative Practice Team, the Recreation Therapist assesses patients’ recreational needs and develops client-centered group and individual programming with the goal of enabling patients to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure.
The successful candidate will participate in program planning/development; professional and hospital initiatives supporting quality management and research; mentoring of colleagues and students; and assist with coverage across other clinical areas as required. Currently this position supports the Transitional Care Units at the Freeport Campus, but can be re-assigned depending on organizational needs.
Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for all patients, staff, and visitors.
Position Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Therapeutic Recreation course at the College or University level.
- Registered Professional (R/TRO) in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or ability to obtain professional registration status within one year of hiring.
- Experience working in geriatrics, dementia care, mental health, stroke care, and orthopedic rehabilitation populations.
- Ability to utilize the Leisure Ability Model involving leisure education, leisure counselling and adaptive approaches, to facilitate functional skills development and maintenance through group and 1:1 program interventions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relevant, client-centred intervention plans based upon patient leisure needs, interests, and goals.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of formal and informal recreation and leisure services and resources preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently, adaptable, creative, innovative and flexible
- Willingness and ability to continue to improve professional competence and knowledge.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend work.
