Position Summary:
Reporting to the Collaborative Practice Manager, you will work with our outpatient collaborative practice team throughout Waterloo Regional Health Network – Midtown Campus. Aligned with a person-centered care model and the vision and values of Waterloo Regional Health Network, and in accordance with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists' (CAMT) and College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario’s (CRPO) Standards of Practice.
Young Adult Program (YAP): This program is for youth aged 16-21 that have been struggling in the mainstream school system, primarily due to mental health concerns. YAP offers both therapeutic components, as well as an academic component. These students will receive music therapy in a group setting once a week, and individually 1-2 times per week, as caseload permits.
Transitional Support Services (TSS): TSS is a voluntary, short-term intervention program of care for youth under 18 that offers individualized sessions focusing on promoting, restoring, maintaining, and enhancing mental health and wellness. TSS also helps to facilitate linkages with hospital and/or community services. These individuals will receive music therapy once a week, or as caseload permits.
Additional responsibilities may include providing music therapy coverage for the child, adolescent, and/or adult inpatient mental health programs, and precepting music therapy interns.
Position Requirements:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates client treatment plans and provides music therapy to work towards mental health goals in an acute setting.
- Works effectively with members of the multidisciplinary teams and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, providing formal and informal consultations to staff
- Collaborates with others regarding operational issues and concerns
- Participates in service committees and quality improvement initiatives as required
- Engages in professional development and continuing education
- Assists with program development and evaluation as required
- Participates in team building, service development and improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Accredited Music Therapist (MTA) with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT); membership in CAMT and/or the Music Therapy Association of Ontario (MTAO) required.
- Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) (RP(Q)) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), registration required.
- Prior experience in a hospital setting preferred; knowledge and experience in mental health required.
- Formal training in psychotherapy and counseling skills required
- CAMT internship supervision training is an asset
- Strong foundation in music theory and practice
- Advanced musical training with a recommended minimum Grade 9 RCM on the principal instrument.
- Experience in developing and implementing individualized music therapy treatment plans
- Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based music therapy / psychotherapy interventions to clients.
- Ability to deliver in-service music therapy education to other WRHN staff.
- Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to navigate challenging clinical situations.
- Strong organizational, time-management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and experience with documentation software/databases.
- Dedication to ongoing professional development as both a clinician and musician.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build rapport with patients, families, and staff.
- Good attendance record.
