Job summary

Musqueam seeks a Recreation Manager to develop and run fitness and recreational programs for the Musqueam community. You will oversee staff, budget, and partnerships while ensuring safe, engaging activities for all ages.

The role involves coordinating events, maintaining equipment, and delivering lifestyle information. A college certificate in Recreation or Physical Education and two years of management experience are required, along with a BC driver’s license and a criminal records check.

Qualifications

• Secondary school completion plus a college certificate in Recreation or Physical Education, or equivalent
• Minimum of two years of management experience
• Knowledge of fitness equipment and how it works
• Experience with program delivery in a First Nations context is a plus
• Budget preparation, reporting, and funding sourcing know-how
• Ability to prepare program progress reports and maintain records
• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to interact with diverse groups
• Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for work
• Criminal Records Check requirement

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, organizes, and develops recreational, athletic, fitness, or sports activities.
• Provides lifestyle awareness information and leads groups or individuals in activities.
• Oversees staff schedules, training, and performance; manages casual staff and students.
• Maintains supplies, equipment inventory, and procurement for programs.
• Monitors safety, enforces rules, and provides first aid when required.
• Manages annual departmental budget and seeks outside funding.
• Builds relationships with Band members, partners, and external agencies.
