Job summary

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is seeking a Recreation Programs Assistant to join the Sport & Recreation team. The role supervises sport, recreation and intramural programs, and provides facilities oversight and administrative support to foster an active campus lifestyle.

Required is a university diploma in recreation or related discipline, plus a year of related experience and Standard First Aid & CPR. De-escalation training is a plus, with travel between campuses as needed.

Qualifications

  • University diploma in Recreation or relevant discipline required.
  • Minimum of one year of related recreation programming experience.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification required.
  • De-escalation training is an asset.
  • Minimum one year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise sport, recreation and intramural programs and events.
  • Provide supervision of facilities and administrative support for Sport & Recreation department.
  • Ensure programs promote an active and healthy campus and engage students.
  • Coordinate with campus partners to plan and implement activities.
  • Exercise initiative and work with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.

We are currently seeking a Recreation Programs Assistant to join our Sport & Recreation team.

Job Overview

Supervises sport, recreation and intramural programs and events that promote an active and healthy campus, in addition to providing supervision of facilities and administrative assistance in support of the Sport & Recreation department.

Education and Experience
  • University diploma in Recreation or relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of one year of recent related recreation programming experience.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR.
  • De-escalation Training is an asset.
  • A minimum of one-year experience at a supervisory level preferred.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of diverse post-secondary student population to plan and implement appropriate programs and attract students to activities.
  • Demonstrated experience with recreation or sport event programming, organizing and implementing activities, preferably with adults or young adults.
  • Enthusiastic personality with the ability to motivate others.
  • Administrative experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and recreation management software.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility; work independently, establish own priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with, and provide customer service to, all internal and external partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with mediation; ability to de-escalate hostile or upset clients.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, and handle unusual or unexpected situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel between campuses is required.

As per the KPU-BCGEU Collective Agreement, qualified internal applicants within the BCGEU bargaining unit are given first consideration in filling this position. Salary Information

Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
