Job summary

City of Brandon is seeking part-time Recreation Services – West Hub staff to supervise and assist with planning afterschool youth programming, including arts & crafts, games and physical activity. Under the Recreation Programmer, you may supervise and facilitate other recreation programs and events; evening/weekend hours are required; first consideration to current CUPE employees.

  • Adjust program activities to accommodate a variety of group sizes, facilities, interests and participant skill levels;
  • Ensure public health guidelines are adhered to at all times;
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Recreation Services – West Hub

Position Conditions: This part-time position including evening and weekend hours will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69. This opportunity is open to all applicants; however, first consideration will be given to current City of Brandon CUPE employees. The City of Brandon reserves the right to underfill this position.

Rate of Pay: $17.74 - $18.86 per hour (2026 Rate).

The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

NOTE: The City of Brandon requires proof of mandatory qualifications. Please ensure these documents are attached when completing your application.

This competition will include testing and an interview.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer, the incumbents will be required to supervise and assist with the planning and delivery of afterschool youth programming. Activities include arts & crafts, games, and physical activity. Opportunities for additional hours supervising and facilitating other recreation programs and community events, with participants ranging from youths to seniors, will also be available.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, supervise and participate in program activities under the direction of the Recreation Programmer;
  • Provide leadership and direction to the participants and show enthusiasm;
  • Provide a safe, cooperative and enjoyable environment for primary school aged children;
  • Adjust program activities to accommodate a variety of group sizes, facilities, interests and participant skill levels;
  • Ensure public health guidelines are adhered to at all times;
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Emergency First Aid/Level C CPR (to be obtained upon hire);
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (to be obtained upon hire);
  • Related experience in recreation, programming, education, instruction, lifetime sports background;
  • Previous experience working with children;
  • Previous experience working in a multi-ethnic setting.
