Job summary

Extendicare's Arbour Heights in Kingston is seeking a Recreation Aide for casual, part-time roles. Reporting to the Recreation Manager, you will help plan, organize and run meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with staff.

Qualifications include a college diploma in recreation or gerontology, experience with seniors, proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication, and a willingness to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. Competitive pay and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents with Recreation Manager.
  • Maintain department records including assessments and activity evaluations.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff.
  • Attend in-service education to stay updated on elder care trends.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan resident-focused activities.
  • Facilitate scheduled and pre-arranged resident outings.
  • Assist with residents' activity level assessments.
  • Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Maintain trust with residents and uphold ethics and integrity.

Recreation Aide - Casual Positions - Arbour Heights

Mission:
Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
  • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
  • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
  • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
  • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
  • Previous experience working with seniors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
