Job summary

Extendicare Canada is seeking a Part-time Recreation/Activity Coordinator to plan and implement meaningful activities for residents in our long-term care homes. You will collaborate with the Recreation Manager to organize programs, record participation, and support meal services as needed.

The role requires a college diploma in recreation or gerontology, experience with seniors, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. A vulnerable sector check is required or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful programs for residents with Recreation Manager.
  • Maintain department records and assess/evaluate planned programs for individual participation.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed on elderly care trends.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan resident-centered programs.
  • Facilitate residents' scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
  • Assist with resident activity level assessments and daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Uphold Extendicare's values and Code of Conduct.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager;
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
  • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
  • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
  • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
  • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera's Code of Conduct;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
  • Previous experience working with seniors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
