Extendicare’s Arbour Heights location seeks a Recreation Aide to support meaningful activities for residents. Under the Recreation Manager and Executive Director, you’ll help plan, organize and implement programs, while maintaining records and ensuring smooth collaboration with families and staff.

The role requires senior-friendly program delivery, strong communication, and a compassionate, energetic approach to enhancing residents’ quality of life in a long-term care setting.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent.
• Experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director.
• Maintain department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff; keep them informed of events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed about trends in elderly care.
• Participate in team meetings to plan programs aligned with residents' interests.
• Facilitate residents' scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
• Assist with resident activity level assessments and daily activity planning.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Uphold Extendicare's Code of Conduct and operate with ethics and integrity.

Recreation Aide - Casual Positions - Arbour Heights**Mission:** Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents.**Key Responsibilities:** • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director; • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting; • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events; • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly; • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind; • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings; • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels; • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities; • Assisting with meal services as required; • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents); • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct; • Complete other duties as assigned.**Qualifications:** • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required; • Previous experience working with seniors; • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); • Excellent oral and written communication skills; • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly; • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.**What Extendicare has to offer:** At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
