Job summary

Extendicare Cobourg is seeking a Part-time Resident Programs Aide to assist in planning, organizing and implementing engaging activities for residents. You will report to the Recreation Manager and support outings, daily activities and meal services.

The role requires a college diploma in recreation/gerontology, experience with seniors, and proficiency with MS Office. A Vulnerable Sector Check is required or willing to obtain one.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent.
• Experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Vulnerable Sector Check completed within six months or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director.
• Maintain department records including assessments and evaluations of programs.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff; inform of events.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interests in mind.
• Facilitate residents' outings as scheduled.
• Assist with assessment of resident activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Uphold Extendicare's Code of Conduct and ethics.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Resident Programs Aide

Mission:

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
• Assisting with meal services as required;
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
• Previous experience working with seniors;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
