Job summary

Anson Place Care Centre in Hagersville, ON is seeking a Recreation Aide to support resident well-being through activity-based, person-centered care. The role reports to the Recreation Manager and begins with activities planned to meet individual needs and interests while aligning with the organization’s vision.

The position involves planning, implementing, and evaluating programs with emphasis on resident engagement, dignity, and fun.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently.
  • Enjoy working with the elderly in a setting that promotes independence, dignity and respect.
  • Ability to engage others imaginatively and with a sense of fun.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Recreation Manager in calendar planning and program development.
  • Implement and evaluate resident dementia care levels in activities.
  • Lead mental health and youth programming where applicable.
  • Build meaningful connections with residents and meet individual well-being needs.
  • Organize supplies and set up activity areas as needed.
  • Document resident participation and attendance in activities.
  • Encourage residents to attend programs and escort to activities.
  • Support residents with personal care during programs when needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Recreation Aide reports to the Recreation Manager and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident well-being while focusing on emotion based person centered care by implementing high-quality activities in accordance with the organization\'s vision and mission.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $24.036/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Recreation Manager in calendar planning and program development of recreation activities designed to meet individual needs and interests, according to established standards.
  • Implementation and evaluation of resident’s levels of dementia.
  • Mental health and younger population programming leadership skills.
  • Willingness to make meaningful connections with residents.
  • Know how to and demonstrate evidence of increasing an individual\'s well-being and meeting residents where they are at.
  • Organize supplies and equipment as needed
  • Set up program area as needed
  • Keep attendance and document Resident participation in activities
  • Encourage Residents to attend programs
  • Assist residents to and from programs
  • Meet an individual’s physical and personal care needs to a high quality standard and with sensitivity
  • Any and all other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Highly organized and able to work independently
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly in a setting that promotes optimum independence, dignity and respect
  • Ability to use your imagination to engage others
  • Must have high energy and a sense of fun
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs
  • Ability to have meaningful engagements with others
  • A college diploma in leisure services an asset
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (w/ in last 6 months), recent TB test results (w/ in last 6 months) or Chest X-Ray (w/ in last 1 yr), and two supervisory references required
  • Experience in or a willing interest to engage with using music in care would be an asset.
