Job summary

Southbridge Care Homes is hiring a Recreation Aide at Hallowell House LTC in Picton, ON. You will plan, implement, and evaluate activities for residents, transport and supervise participants, and maintain records.

A post-secondary diploma in recreation or related field is required, with strong communication and teamwork skills. The role reports to the Programs Manager and offers day and evening shifts, permanent part-time status, and an hourly wage starting at CAD 22.65.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or related field.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; good documentation abilities.
• Experience in planning and evaluating individual and group activities for residents, including those with cognitive impairments.

Hourly Wage: starting at $22.65/ hour

Position:Recreation Aide

Schedule: Day Shifts (8:30am-4:30pm) | Evening shifts (11:00am-7:00pm)

Status: Permanent Part-Time

Reports to: Programs Manager

The Activity Aide plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents. On the daily basis the Activity Aide will have the opportunity to bring joy and fun to our residents; by assisting with the facilitation of different activities, you will have a hand at brightening someone’s day!

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation program based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity area as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university or enrolled in same required. If enrolled, must complete program within 3 years of hire date.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
• Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairments.

Additional Requirements include

• A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.

• Completion of a 2 Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months of start date.
