On November 3rd, 2023, the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification of Commission (SATCC) hosted an award celebration in Regina at the Conexus Arts Centre. The Gabriel Dumont Institute Training & Employment department was pleased to attend and sponsor the event. SATCC awards include two for apprentices with the highest exam marks and 11 industry awards, including the new GDI Perseverance Award. Dylan Arcand, a 3rd-year carpenter apprentice from Saskatoon, received this year's GDI Perseverance Award.
The GDI Perseverance Award is an annual recognition celebrating Métis apprentices demonstrating resilience and self-determination. The award includes a $750 cash prize from the GDI Training & Employment Endowment Fund. "The GDI Perseverance Award honors a Métis apprentice whose self-determination and achievements embody Métis resilience," said Audrey Hestand, who delivered greetings on behalf of the Institute. "In a world that often values instant gratification, these apprentices have chosen perseverance." Audrey encouraged apprentices to be proud of their achievements and to aspire to become skilled community experts.
GDI is a Saskatchewan-based educational, employment, and cultural institute serving Métis communities across the province.
