Job summary

Carlton Trail Railway Company is seeking a skilled Machine Operator to safely operate specialized machinery for railroad track construction and repair in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. You will drive company vehicles and handle heavy equipment required for tasks designated by the Roadmaster.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and teamwork to support OmniTRAX’s rail infrastructure projects. Candidates should have track maintenance experience and a valid CDL, with Roadway Worker Protection

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of track maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of heavy equipment operation (Backhoe, Grapple Truck, Boom Truck, Tamper).
  • Ability to operate hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, measuring tapes).
  • Ability to operate power tools and hydraulic equipment (rail saws, spike pullers, track wrench machines, power drills).
  • Good reading comprehension and the ability to follow written/oral instructions.
  • Basic math skills for area, circumference, length, distance, and volume calculations.
  • Clear, professional communication with colleagues at all levels.
  • Familiarity with Roadway Worker Protection (RWP).
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment including Backhoe, Grapple Truck, Boom Truck and Tamper.
  • Drive company vehicles and assist with rail construction and repair tasks.
  • Raise rails using track jacks to install or remove railroad ties.
  • Drill through rails for bolts and operate rail saws for cutting Rails.
  • Use track-wrench machines to tighten or loosen bolts at rail joints and perform related tasks.
  • Operate spike pullers and spike drivers for track construction and maintenance.
  • Safely operate lifting devices and tools, following safety protocols.
