Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment in railroad construction.
  • Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools and hydraulic equipment.
  • Adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to read construction specifications and related documents.
  • Willingness to be trained and train others on the machine.

Responsibilities

  • Operates Canron Mark III/IV tamping machines to compact ballast per grade specs.
  • Inspects and maintains trucks and attached apparatus such as hi-rail gear and tools.
  • Operates equipment safely per regulations and procedures.
  • Performs equipment safety and maintenance checks; makes emergency adjustments as needed.
  • Avoids hazards and obstructions, including utilities, other equipment, and workers.
  • Studies plans and diagrams to determine work requirements.
  • Drives machines onto trailers and unloads from trailers.
  • Keeps records of material, usage, and issues encountered.
