Job summary

Cando Rail & Terminals is seeking Switchpersons to provide safe and efficient rail car switching on customer sites and our terminals. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and excellent customer service while supporting all site operations.

Ideal candidates will be physically able to perform demanding outdoor work, read documentation, and follow switching procedures. Training and advancement opportunities are offered as part of our safety culture.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or GED.
• Experience in industrial workplace or equipment operations is an asset.
• Rail experience is an asset.
• Class 5 driver's license is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe locomotive operation including briefings and protecting train, track, and equipment.
• Operate switches and derails, couple/uncouple rail cars, manage air hoses, apply and release handbrakes.
• Perform daily locomotive inspections including brakes and safety devices.
• Complete daily reports, logs, and other necessary documents.
• Support and assist with all site operations on site.
• Comply with operating rules and promote safe work habits.
• Promptly report safety, equipment, and track problems.
• Provide excellent customer service while promoting a positive company image.
• Participate in training or company initiatives as required.
