CN is seeking a Car Mechanic Apprentice in Canada to inspect, maintain, build and repair railway freight cars in line with federal and CN rules. The position advances from Apprentice to Journey Car Mechanic through a CN training program.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Medical fitness-for-duty and safety prerequisites must be met.
  • Ability to work autonomously, adapt to various situations and manage stress.
  • Good teamwork and positive interaction with others.
  • Good verbal, reading and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical and electronic tools is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect cars and components per regulations and standards.
  • Perform scheduled, on-request and preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Repair and install railway car parts such as compressors, valves, bearings and piping.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and measuring instruments.
  • Operate transport vehicles including cranes and trucks.
  • Prepare inspection and work reports following procedures.
