Job summary

Keyera is seeking a Rail Team Lead to support rail operations at our terminals in Canada. The role provides frontline leadership to the rail operations team, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient movement of rail assets.

Qualifications

• Experience in rail or terminal operations and related industrial settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership to rail operations staff, assign work, coach, and manage performance.
• Oversee safe and efficient rail operations including movements, loading/unloading priorities, and asset readiness.
• Maintain alignment with Operations Manager and other stakeholders across maintenance, logistics, and Commercial.
• Identify production constraints and coordinate mitigations with internal teams and external partners.
• Develop and implement rail operating procedures while adhering to safety and site standards.
• Support pre-maintenance planning and operational readiness, including lockout/tagout and pre-job planning.
• Coordinate inspections, follow-up on safety events, and report on rail-related issues.
• Train and develop Facility Operators and rail teams on procedures and documentation.
• Support staffing, scheduling, vacation coverage, and related administrative tasks.

THE POSITION

Keyera is currently seeking a Rail Team Lead to support rail operations at our Keyera Terminals. As part of the Rail Team Support structure, this role provides frontline leadership to the rail operations team and supports the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of rail assets.

This position works a 5-on/5-off shift schedule and plays a key role in coordinating day-to-day rail activities, supporting team performance, and maintaining strong communication across operations, maintenance, logistics and Commercial stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide day-to-day leadership to rail operations employees, including assigning work, coaching employees, supporting performance, and maintaining clear expectations in a unionized operating environment.
• Support the safe and efficient execution of rail operations, including loading and unloading priorities, rail movements, car volumes, terminal status, production constraints, and operational risks.
• Maintain clear communication and alignment with the Operations Manager, rail operations teams, maintenance, logistics, Commercial, CN, Cando, and other internal and external rail stakeholders.
• Identify, mitigate, and manage rail production constraints, including railcar availability, loading and unloading delays, track access, equipment readiness, maintenance conflicts, and third-party service impacts.
• Create, review, and implement rail operating procedures while maintaining working knowledge of CSOP, OSS, SDS, Keyera standards, rail safety requirements, and applicable site procedures.
• Support rail pre-maintenance planning with operations and maintenance staff, including lockout/tagout, pre-job meetings, JHIDs, job planning, track or equipment access, and operational readiness.
• Coordinate rail inspections, yard inspections, HSE event follow-up, corrective actions, rail-related deficiencies, Maximo service requests, and related reporting.
• Train, validate, and support Facility Operators and rail operations teams on rail competencies, loading and unloading procedures, yard inspections, documentation, and site expectations.
• Support employee development, Annual Development Reviews, performance discussions, investigations, accommodation matters, return-to-work planning, grievance discussions, and labour relations processes in consultation with Operations leadership, Human Resources, and Labour Relations as required.
• Support rail staffing, scheduling, vacation coverage, weekend coverage, work lists, billing, purchase requisitions, financial and administrative approvals, bad order car reports, CN activity updates, rail asset administration, and related communications.
• Support rail terminal business needs, customer requirements, project work, training, and cross-functional activities at related terminals, or other rail-related departments as required, including after-hours escalation and troubleshooting for rail movements, asset issues, equipment concerns, or terminal disruptions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience in rail operations, terminal operations, facility operations, logistics, maintenance coordination, or a related industrial environment.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including assigning work, coaching employees, supporting performance, and managing competing operational priorities.
• Strong understanding of rail operations, rail safety requirements, loading/unloading activities, yard inspections, operating procedures, and related documentation.
• Experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.
• Familiarity with collective agreement application, employee relations, investigations, accommodations, return-to-work processes, or labour relations matters would be considered an asset.
• Strong safety mindset with the ability to support safe work planning, hazard identification, lockout/tagout, pre-job planning, and operational readiness.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide timely updates, relevant feedback, clear direction, and effective handovers.
• Strong analytical, reporting, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with operations, maintenance, logistics, Commercial, Supply Chain Management, CN, Cando, contractors, customers, and other external parties.
• Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operating environment.
• Experience with Maximo, purchase requisitions, service requests, asset performance reporting, billing, financial approvals, or related administrative systems would be considered an asset.
• Professional judgment and discretion when supporting performance matters, sensitive employee situations, operational concerns, and labour relations processes.
