Qualifications

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Rail Safety Compliance, this role aims to enhance rail safety by implementing practical risk and compliance solutions. You will assist in conducting Dynamic and E testing aligned with the Safety Management System (SMS) and Rail Safety Management System (RSMS), ensuring procedures are consistently applied. Collaboration across teams will be vital to align safety practices and optimize operations. Your expertise will ensure safety and compliance activities are effective and measurable, while keeping ahead of industry trends to adapt practices.

This is primarily an on-site role, involving hands-on safety improvements and operational performance enhancements.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the Manager of Operating Practices and the Manager of Rail Safety Compliance on safety compliance matters.
  2. Assist in applying CROR and driving operational safety and efficiency in collaboration with the Manager of Operating Practices.
  3. Support activities under the Risk Management Maturity Model (RM3), including audits and evaluations to improve safety practices.
  4. Monitor and report on KPIs such as TORV, incident rates, and audit findings; identify trends and implement improvements.
  5. Participate and support the JH&SC for Train crew.
  6. Promote continuous improvement through learning from incidents and near misses.
  7. Ensure effective communication with operations teams to align safety practices.
  8. Assist in planning and executing Dynamic and E tests, inspections, and audits.
  9. Support compliance projects by coordinating tasks, tracking progress, and collaborating across departments.
  10. Embrace additional responsibilities as needed to address safety and compliance needs.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to navigate sites and wear safety gear in a track environment.
  • Travel may be required; ability to operate company vehicles.
  • May require sitting, standing, and walking for periods.

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Business, Analytics, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in rail safety management or related field.
  • At least 2 years' experience working with cross-functional teams on complex projects, ideally in rail.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of CSM-RA or CMREA (Canadian Safety Methods).
  • Understanding of Incident Management Systems (IMS) / Incident Command Systems (ICS).
  • Valid or ability to obtain CROR Foreman D certification or higher.
  • Knowledge of RM3.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Risk and Compliance principles and legal regulations.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) is desirable.
