Successful external applicants will be eligible to receive a one-time Signing Bonus of $7,000. In turn, a Return of Service will be required for a two-year period.

The Opportunity

The mammography technologist, under the supervision of the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, is responsible for the operation of radiological and accessory equipment for mammography, breast ultrasound, and interventional procedures. The technologist must be able to perform quality screening and diagnostic mammography with minimal supervision and display independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing radiological procedures for the purpose of medical diagnosis including assessing requisitions for appropriate examinations, views, and equipment required.
  2. Obtaining pertinent history and selecting techniques to attain quality images.
  3. Operating X-Ray equipment and adhering to ALARA radiation safety practices.
  4. Carrying out sterile techniques when required.
  5. Performing clerical duties related to the care of the patient.
Hours of Work

Monday to Friday (75 hours biweekly) between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm

Your Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiological Technology required.
  • Current or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) is required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate is required.
  • Mammography positioning skills experience preferred, screening or diagnostics.
  • Experience in breast ultrasound and interventional procedures is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions and work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • A high degree of mental and visual acuity, as well as reasonable manual dexterity is required.
  • Must be willing to obtain continuing education as part of CAR Mammography Accreditation.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset.
