Job summary

Lumentum Canada invites a motivated student to join the R&D process group in Advanced Packaging and Integration, contributing to our Optical Circuit Switch (OCS) development. You will engage in package assembly, integration, sealing processes, and data collection, while collaborating with Hermetics, Manufacturing, and software teams to learn product development at scale.

The role offers an 8–16 month term, onsite in Ottawa, with a pay range of $24-35/hr.

Qualifications

3rd or 4th year: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Nanotech Engineering, or Engineering Physics preferred.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
Experience with mechanical design, experiments, and problem solving is valued.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques is a plus.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the engineering team to study manufacturing process factors using DOE.
Improve tools, jigs, and fixtures to enhance manufacturability.
Analyze data to show parameter impact on process quality.
Maintain organized experimental records and project documentation.
Work in R&D lab and clean room environments with industrial machinery.
Provide regular progress updates and collaborate with stakeholders for continuous improvements.
Receive basic training and contribute ideas to improve processes.
