About the role

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for keeping track of all R&D inventory. Their main duties include preparing excel lists for purchase orders, inventory counts, organization of shelves with proper labelling and bins, logging all inventory in an organized spreadsheet, and ensuring that quantities of product components, equipment, and supplies are maintained at all times. They are responsible for warehousing activities, such as receiving/shipping, organizing the warehouse to help maintain a safe work environment. In addition, be the primary back-up to the Purchasing Specialist to place purchase orders, consolidate invoices and support new component vendors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Receive and ship medical devices and components and maintain the warehouse in a clean and organized fashion to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Review drawings and Bill of materials to prepare excel sheets for component orders with quantities based on demand.
  • Keep track of raw materials, equipment, shipments, incoming deliveries, and stock.
  • Manage inventory using Master excel sheets and maintain it with frequent inventory counts.
  • Prevent shortages of supply or manage unexpected shortages.
  • Order materials as needed.
  • Reconcile inventory differences between physical stock and digital data.
  • Review incoming and outgoing orders and sort them on shelves with labels accordingly.
  • Create, update, and maintain supplier purchasing files that are complete with pricing information.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure the schedule facility tasks are completed and documented in the electronic management system.
  • Other duties as required.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field, or equivalent years of experience
  • 2+ years’ related experience in inventory tracking and warehouse tasks, such as shipping and receiving.
  • 2+ years’ related experience working within R&D/Engineering work environments and companies.
  • Basic technical concepts and practices and a basic understanding of product or systems fundamentals.
  • Experience using excel for inventory tracking and master lists.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Software including Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and MS Word.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Work experience in the medical device industry.
  • Familiarity reading mechanical drawings (CAD drawings) and Bills of Material.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments with limited time constraints while working consistently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prepare purchase orders and consolidate invoices.
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing priorities and unforeseen events.
  • Must be able to perform multiple high-level tasks within structured timelines.
  • Experience using electronic document systems such as Windchill.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for hourly, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for salaried, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for sales roles is governed by Sales Incentive Compensation Plan (which includes certain annual non-discretionary incentives based on predetermined objectives).

This job involves regular collaboration with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders across Canada, the U.S., and/or internationally, making proficiency in English essential for effective communication and alignment. As detailed in the job description, this job involves communicating, both verbally and in writing, with other Boston Scientific teams located across Canada, the United States and/or with our international clients and partners. International customers and partners represent an important part of our activities. Based on an evaluation, we have determined that the duties of R&D Inventory Specialist / Spécialiste en l'inventaire (R et D) position require knowledge of English in addition to French (oral and written). We also determined that the English language skills already required of other employees do not permit the performance of English language skills tasks related to R&D Inventory Specialist / Spécialiste en l'inventaire (R et D) position.

However, in Québec, Boston Scientific limits as much as possible the number of positions for which it requires the knowledge of another language than French. Boston Scientific solely requires proficiency in English where it is necessary for the performance of an employee’s duties.
