About the role

We are seeking an R&D Engineer III to join our dynamic R&D Packaging and Sellable Product team. The engineer will work under limited supervision to support the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions for our products. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain to ensure successful product commercialization.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Participating in project teams to contribute technical work related to packaging and product design and development.
  2. Conducting technical analysis of medical device packaging systems and materials for new and existing products to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  3. Gathering requirements from internal and external sources to accurately capture user needs and ensure products meet them.
  4. Investigating field-related issues and performing root cause analysis.
  5. Generating engineering documentation (e.g., DHF and DMR) in accordance with quality policies and systems.
  6. Leading packaging-specific initiatives to support new designs, materials, or process-related issues.
  7. Adhering to all requirements of the Quality Management System.
  8. Performing other duties as required.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience working within a quality management system and quality controls (e.g., design inputs/outputs, verification/validation).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for engaging with individuals at various levels.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering (strongly preferred).
  • Experience in medical device R&D, with hands-on prototyping and testing.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of packaging materials such as paperboard, corrugate, flexible films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, and manufacturing methods.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM) and their applications.

Salary Range: $66,500 - $131,800

The listed compensation and benefits vary based on location and other factors. Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, licensure, and certifications. At BSC, employees are typically hired within this range.

For hourly, non-sales roles, compensation may include overtime, shift differentials, and bonuses. Salaried roles may include annual bonuses and long-term incentives. Sales roles are governed by the Sales Incentive Compensation Plan.
